Senior Health Series at the PPL

In collaboration with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the American Cancer Society, the Pontiac Public Library welcomes you to our Senior Health Series on Colon Health Awareness
Take charge of your health!

Learn about colorectal cancer—the second leading cause of death in the United States—and easy, healthy steps you can take to lower your risk factors.

Attend free classes “Your Path to a Healthier Colon"
All classes are from 10am-11:30am
April 22 – How to Grow Your Own Garden
May 6 – Hands on Session: Preparing Vegetables
May 20 – Hands on Session: Preparing Fruits
June 10 – Fiber Foods, Water Intake, Fruits and Vegetables
June 24 – Common Terms Related to the Colon

All the above sessions will be held Pontiac Public Library, 60 E. Pike St.
Classes will also include a question and answer session and light exercise.

Both men and women are at risk for developing colorectal cancer, with individuals age 50 and over at greater risk of contracting the disease. A family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps also increases the risk. Others at higher risk include those with a history of a bowel disease, such as colitis or Crohn’s, those who are African American, those who are overweight and those who smoke.

Pontiac Veterans Memorial Corporation - Education Scholarship

The Pontiac Veterans Memorial Corporation is offering a $1,000.00 scholarship to attend a jr college, trade school, college or university. Among other guidelines, the winning candidate must reside in the City of Pontiac and be a graduating senior from the Pontiac School District.
